Choosing a Zabbix Agent for Collecting Data from a Wiren Board Controller
This is the approved revision of this page, as well as being the most recent.
Introduction
Zabbix is a free system for monitoring the status of various computer-network services, servers, and network equipment. Zabbix consists of:
- Zabbix Server — the server part that collects data from the Agents and stores it in a database.
- Zabbix Frontend — display of the data in a web interface.
- Zabbix Agent — the client agent that sends information to the server.
Currently there are two versions of the Agent, 1 and 2. You can see the differences on the official website.
Version 2 of the agent fully covers the capabilities of version 1, and as an advantage it has an active mode that lets the agent initiate data transfer. For working with an MQTT broker this option is preferable. As soon as the Wiren Board controller's MQTT broker publishes data to a topic, version 2 of the agent sends it to the server. Version 1 of the agent transfers values only on request from the server.
Zabbix Agent setup instructions
Follow the guide for the agent version you choose:
- Zabbix Agent 1 — installation both on a Wiren Board controller and on a separate computer.
- Zabbix Agent 2 — installation on a separate computer.
